Sunday evening has come and gone but the memory of being at the Byron Lighthouse waiting for the super moon to rise from the most easterly point of Australia will stay with me for a long time! It was 5.05pm and was quiet dramatic with a large crowd of people trying to find a good vantage point to capture the moment this glorious orb rose from the horizon. The lone goat grazed happily on the cliff face unfazed by the human activity. Normally the beam from the lighthouse would become stronger as darkness falls, however, on this night it was no match for the powerful light emanating from this perigee moon!. This rare cosmic event has our celestial neighbor shining 30% brighter and 14% bigger than other full moons and will not happen again until 2029.
